I bought a Tom Senior M1. As these are English machines most of you in N.A will be unfamiliar with them. It's a metric 3 phase machine. with the S type head, I would have preferred imperial but I could fit a DRO to it. It appears to be in excellent condition with no damage to the table or back lash to the feed screws.
Im fairly new to my South Bend Lathe but after doing a couple milling projects on the lathe Ive got the bug and Im looking into a dedicated mill. Does anyone have an opinion on a Tom Senior mill like this as a starter machine? Its in my area which makes things easier. a quick mock up revealed that with a milling cutter in id have a maxiumum z axis (up and down) of around 2" - not much, not nearly enough so a solution is required. Now Tom Senior sold a column spacer - goes between the machines main column and the base (the tray bit). this is a ikkle 3" tho. My thinking is thus. Column spacers are a thing.
