I've come to think of the bench top mills collectively as mini mills, since that's how I often hear machinist types refer to them. I'd forgotten that several companies actually offer an item specifically called a mini mill. The G0704 is pretty light at around just over 300lbs but the design is pretty clever so it's fairly rigid for it's mass.
The G0704 7" x 27" 1 HP Mill Drill with Stand can be easily operated by those just learning to mill and is also great as a dedicated, single-purpose machine in a professional shop. If you own a Grizzly G0704 Benchtop milling machine, you know full well how frustrating changing collets/tooling can be... mainly due to the way it's setup, with that little hole in the quill/shaft, where you're suppose to insert that straight "tool" that comes with the machine, to keep it from rotating while you loosen the draw bolt..... and it never works.

I went to Grizzly and looked close at their mini mills, then came home and order the LMS mill. Grizzly is pretty good stuff, but I feel the LMS is a little better quality. Had mine a couple years now and it does all this knife maker needs to do.

Like the mini-mill, this mill has a plastic gear drive which works OK but is noisy. I will be replacing the gears with an aftermarket belt drive I am waiting for. One needs to have a drill chuck on R8 arbor, a set of R8 collets, mill vise (Kurt type recommended), and clamping kit to make use of this mill.

The Grizzly G0704 truly NEEDS this kit to perform like a small cnc powerhouse milling machine! Tool changes are a breeze, the spindle power and speed is amazing and the results can be seen in your cnc'd parts! Used with TTS Type tooling!
What are your thoughts out there between an X3 mill v. a Grizzly (BF20) G0704. It seems that weight-wise, they are in the same category. With the 0704 you get the digital height adjustment and the stand, but pay less, is there that much of a quality increase in the X3 styles, namely the G0463.
